Bourg Sheet Feeder (BSF)

For customers hesitating between Off-Line and In-Line finishing, C.P. Bourg offers the best of both worlds with the Dual-Mode Bourg Sheet Feeder (BSF). It allows multiple printers/presses to share one finishing device. Positioned In-Line between a printer/press and the finishing equipment, the BSF allows digital and offset print shops with different printers to easily shift and/or merge job production using the Dual-Mode (by shifting between In-Line and Off-Line/Near-Line modes), achieving productivity increases while maintaining integrity of collated output.

Bourg Sheet Feeder (BSF)

The BSF consists of two feeding stations which allows for a wide range of applications and flexibility. Thanks to the innovative air-table design, the lower feeding station has the capacity to accept a trolley fully stacked with collated sets of paper directly from a Canon/Océ, HP, Kodak, Konica Minolta, Xerox, etc. trolley/cart/pallet. No manual transfer of heavy stacks of collated paper sets from stacker carts to a sheet feeder is required. The cart/trolley is easily inserted in the machine. This results in increased productivity and reduces the risk of damaged sheets, stacking errors and personal injuries.

The top feeding station has the capacity to load up to 140 mm (5.51 in) of printed papers, laminated or coated materials. The paper is then fed using suction belt and air separation technology, enabling high feeding speeds of up to 18,000 sheets/hour even when media is waved or curled.

The BSF is the only one in its category capable of handling a wide range of media sizes from 203,2 x 120 mm (8 x 4.72 in) to 660,4 x 364 mm (26 x 14.33 in): the perfect complement to  most  digital printers/presses.

Fast and flexible

The BSF is the only one in its category that is able to feed up to 18,000 sheets/hour and  accept wide paper formats from 203,2 x 120 mm (8 x 4.72 in) to 660,4 x 364 mm (26 x 14.33 in).

The BSF offers three possible applications for greater job flexibility:

  1. Automatic flow of sheets from the printer/press through the BSF and into the C.P. Bourg Finishing products (standard In-Line application). Sheets, such as laminated covers, may be inserted via the BSF during the In-Line process;
  2. Autonomous running of a C.P. Bourg Finishing product in an Off-Line/Near-Line Mode while the printer is turned off;
  3. Dual-Mode enables your printer/press to pass sheets to an attached In-Line finisher or accepts stacks from other printers/presses in order to feed the In-Line finishing device while your printer is not in use or printing to the stacker.

Exclusive to C.P. Bourg

Unique BSF Tandem offers unparalleded productivity

By connecting two BSFs together, you get a Tandem BSF which automatically switches between units to allow non-stop finishing of jobs from In-Line and Off-Line printers/presses, and ensures peak finishing efficiency. Once the first feeder runs out of paper, the system automatically switches to the second one. Output is uninterrupted and productivity is maintained at 100%.

No manual transfer of collated paper sets saves you time and money

By automatically transferring print output from different manufacturers’ stacker carts into the sheet feeder and centering the stack,  the BSF makes it easier for users in on-demand print environments to reap the productivity benefits offered by Off-Line/Near-Line volume finishing.

Stacker carts/trolleys compatibility

To provide you a great flexibility, we offer over 20 carts and trolleys compatible with various printers/presses and stackers (from HP Indigo, Kodak, Konica Monolta, Océ/Canon and Xerox) that can easily feed stacks of pre-collated documents (digital color, digital monochrome or from offset presses) in the Bourg Sheet Feeder (BSF).

Great connectability

Exclusive to C.P. Bourg

The BSF can be connected to all of the following C.P. Bourg finishing modules, print engines and other machines:

  1. For booklet-making applications: Bourg Bleed-Crease Module (BCM-e), Bourg Document Finisher (BDF-e), and Bourg Booklet Maker (BM-e);
  2. For perfect binding applications: BB3202, Bourg automated In-Line/Off-Line perfect binder composed of the Bourg Book Compiler (BBC). An additional accessory is the Bourg Perforating Rotating Folding module (BPRF);
  3. The Off-Line/Near-Line solution: BSF – BCM-e – BM-e is an ideal booklet-making solution for digital printers. Output from any engine (digital and/or pre-collated offset) can be placed into the BSF with ease. The content of the BSF will follow an automated bleed, crease, stitch, fold, trim process of up to 120 page booklets (30 sheets);
  4. The BSF also allows stacks of pre-collated documents to be fed into the BB3202 perfect binder;
  5. Thanks to the new left-exit, the BSF can operate In-Line with the right-to-left paper path of digital presses such as HP Indigo as well as with the left-to-right paper path of digital printers such as Xerox;
  6. The BSF can be connected to various machines such as the Bograma BSR 550 Servo packaging machine, the Epic coater, the SquareBack™ booklet-maker WatKiss PowerSquare 224, Rollem machines and many others. The list continues to grow as we are validating other partner products. The BSF, with its Bourg Box technology, offers a large range of solution & flexibility to the printers!

Furthermore, the OMR mark recognition system and the ultrasonic double and miss control are standard features.

The barcode reader enables automatic job set-up by reading the barcode on the first sheet which contains specific job information (sheet size, number of pages, etc). Additional barcodes may be placed on every sheet to guarantee job integrity.

In brief, the BSF uniquely integrates with your current and future workflow and maximises your asset utilization.
